Do Black Plants Exist Asks Author Karen Platt?

Karen Platt is one gardening author determined to prove that black plants do exist.

SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND, April 14, 2011 /Home and Garden PR News/ -- 'Black plants' cause more arguments than any other colour in the garden. Today's gardeners are looking for something a little bit different. Gardening author, Karen Platt has launched

'Black Iris'

an ebook of over 450 black iris with full descriptions, illustrations and growing information. This ebook contains information for gardeners anywhere in the world that iris grow. This compliments Platt's current books on black and coloured plants.

'The black iris is dressed to thrill,' says Platt 'it's as if it was meant to be black. If you want options in black plants - you can do no better than this.'

The ebook is a guide to all the dark iris bred since the early 1900's. It stands as a complete description of all dark iris, written in Platt's pithy, inimitable style but it is also a historical record of the progression of breeding black irises, particularly in the USA. Her writing is the result of her experiences growing and studying black iris.

'Black is often concentrated in a particular genus' says Platt, 'in iris they are found as hybrids across many classifications and unusually, they also occur naturally. If you are looking to plant a dark garden, iris are one plant to consider.'

The ebook is available for download now on

Black plants are a real phenomenon in the plant world. There are those who say that they do not exist at all but many plants come close. Garden author, Karen Platt has been researching black plants since 1990 and she is the only person in the world to write about them in any depth. Since that time she has exhorted gardeners not to argue the colour but to enjoy it. She has dedicated her gardening life to growing black plants and to encouraging others to do so. She was the first person in the world to have a nursery specializing in black plants. Her book 'Black Magic and Purple Passion' is the ultimate book on black plants and is now in its 4th edition. Since the first edition in 2000, Karen has written about almost 3500 black plants. However, for the past few years Karen has been concentrating on one genus - black Iris. This is the culmination of her work on this genus.

Karen Platt is a renowned garden author who also runs a garden tour company. She has won awards for garden design at prestigious UK and USA garden shows. Contact: Karen Platt
