Brentano's Iris Wang Connects with Woven Words
First blog entries offer glimpse into personal design philosophy
WHEELING, IL, October 09, 2011 /Home and Garden PR News/ -- Brentano Design Director Iris Wang has offered a very public glimpse into her personal design philosophy this year with the introduction of her blog, Woven Words (woven-words.com). The site received an impressive welcome with 100+ views on the day of its debut in late December 2010, and readership continues to spike with each new entry. So far, Wang has written about the nitty-gritty of creating textiles, shared sketches that inspire her design, and offered anecdotes from her everyday life as a businesswoman, designer, and mother.
Although Wang considers interior design professionals to be the primary audience for Woven Words, her blog is about more than just business. For her, writing is a way to attempt the impossible, to translate visual ideas into words. She has kept a Chinese diary for as long as she can remember, filling it with more abstract and philosophical entries than her followers will find in Woven Words. Her "only English" blog has become a medium through which she can share Brentano's personality, culture, aesthetic, and sense of values with others.
Wang readily admits that her perspective is unique. Born in South Korea to parents who had fled Chinese Communism, she only came to the US in 1978. "I don't always get American jokes," she says, eagerly citing Americanisms like "Catch-22" and "Leave It to Beaver" that weren't always familiar to her. She discusses her new blog with the same energy, considering topics as diverse as Chinese art history (before the Tang Dynasty), Van Gogh's paintings, the intricacies of language, and Akira Kurosawa's films from the 1940's.
"I should write about that," she muses, "Sometimes I just love writing. When my eye sees something that sparks an idea, I just sit down and write."
